So, the OS upgrade is free, but for most RAID users, it's going to cost at least $50. Eg I had a scanner finally give up cuz a utility I use that ran up to 10.10 to use TWAIN drivers finally died. As in if some of your applications don't work with 10.11, but most have been upgraded. IMHO one should upgrade unless there are good reasons not to. Some others had some problems with upgrading, but as I understand it they've fixed stuff in the latest iterations of the installer. The SIP thing did cause problems during my upgrade it locked up the machine during shutdowns.
